LSI is a market leader in operations, maintenance, modification overhaul, systems integration, logistics/support and training services to government agencies and commercial customers in the United States and worldwide. LSI began providing maintenance services to large fleets of aircraft in 1961, followed by its training services to the U.S. Military and international customers.

In September 1997, LSI was acquired by The Carlyle Group, a Washington-based investment banking group. Among LSI's assets are its well regarded and wide-ranging Department of Defense Contract Field Team (CFT) programs as well as other major domestic and international contracts.

In March 2002, George Melton, was selected to be the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lear Siegler Services, Inc. Mr. Melton is the President and CEO of EG&G Technical Services, Inc. (EG&G), which was majority owned by The Carlyle Group. EG&G Technical Services, Inc. and Lear Siegler Services, Inc. consolidated to become the premier provider of outsourced management and technical support services to the federal government. EG&G is a global technology company based in Gaithersburg, Maryland with annual sales of more than $950M and approximately 10,000 employees. EG&G provides a full range of management, scientific, technical, operational and support services to both government and commercial customers.

In August 2002, URS Corporation, the nation's largest engineering and design firm, completed its acquisition of EG&G Technical Services (EG&G) from The Carlyle Group. EG&G is a leading provider of technical operations and maintenance services to the U.S. government, including NASA, the Departments of Justice, Energy and Transportation and all branches of the military. EG&G's services include the management of military installations and ranges, logistics and distribution center operations, program management and acquisition support for weapons systems, maintenance of military equipment, flight training for military pilots, and services related to global threat reduction and homeland defense.
